Faulkner bases his poor fable off of actual people that he has seen and known from his hometown in escapeissippi. He also makes up the setting in his short story to mimic his hometown, which he loves, and tells this short story by dint of the eyes of the townspeople. Faulkner leads the reader to believe that Miss Emily has poisoned Homer Baron, which is an action of insanity.
Next, William foreshadows insanity when Miss Emilys business firm begins to smell extremely bad and the townspeople have to use up with it themselves because Miss Emily will not.
