Samuel Langhorne Clemens (Mark gallus) was born in Florida, Missouri on November 30, in 1835. He was the sixth child of John Marshall and Jane Lampton Clemons. The family soon locomote to Hannibal, Missouri, where Twain was raised. After his fathers death in 1847, Twain was bound(p) to a printer, writing for the Hannibal Journal. Later Twain loped as a licensed Mississippi river-boat pilot (1857-61) where he got his famous penname Twain. It came from the forestall Mark twain! which meant that the water was at least 12 feet cryptic which was deep enough for most boats to pass. In 1861 Twain served shortly as a confederate irregular. The Civil War had vagabond an end to the steamboat traffic so Twain was out of travel and tried to start a career in sumptuous mining.
Twain moved to Virginia City, where he edited two eld for the Territorial Enterprise. On February 3, 1863, Mark Twain was born when he signed a humorous travel account with that penname. In 1864 Twain left wing for California, where worked in San Francisco as a reporter. After hearing a story about a batrachian, Twain make an founding in his notebook about a jumping frog from which he developed Jim Smiley and his Jumping Frog which was published in The Saturday tug of New York on November 18, 1865.
It was reprinted all over the country and became the unveiling stone of THE CELEBRATED JUMPING FROG OF CALAVERAS COUNTY, AND OTHER SKETCHES (1867). This work marked the beginning of Twains literary career.
In 1866 Twain visited how-do-you-do as a correspondent for The Sacramento Union. He past set out on world tour, travelling to France and Italy. Twain recorded his experiences in The Innocents Abroad (1869). The work gained him wide popularity and made fun of both American and European prejudices and manners. Throughout his life, Twain frequently returned to travel writing.
