Mercy: compassionate or kindly forbearance shown toward an offender, an enemy, or other person in ones power. In William Shakespeares play, King Lear, thither was many instances where mercy was displayed amongst the characters. Mercy allows a society to support peace and esteem; mercy is related to forgiveness which grants slew the possibility of redemption. Mercy helps to eliminate unnecessary violence among sight; it allows people to think of others feelings and keep them from doing to each one other harm. Mercy allows the one who is receiving the mercy a chance to make up their character. Redemption allows that person to realize their mistakes, learn from them and hit to better his or her character. Mercy allows a society to be peaceful and full of love, rids the society of unnecessary violence, and allows people to redeem themselves. Wi gramt mercy a society would be to harsh, judgmental and downhearted and mercy creates a harmonious, forgiving and loving society.

Peace and love are necessary to keep a society civilized, mercy shown among people can achieve that. King Lear banishes Earl of Kent from Lears kingdom because Kent supports Lears daughter, Cordelia over the King.

Kent shows the King mercy by not seeking revenge on him for being banished. Kents actions display his love for the King and shows that his love brings peace between the two of them.
