Bio Lab-Organic Molecules

In this experiment, we were trying to determine which organic jots were present in three different unknown protein dietary supplements, and if they were or were non mainly protein based, or if they contained other molecules as well. Many dietary supplements simply claim to be full of proteins, but atomic number 18 they re all toldy? In this experiment, we hope to determine if this is true or not.
In order to determine the organic molecules present in from individually matchless of the different unknown dietary supplements, we used cardinal reagents: Lugols, Benedicts, Ninhydrin, and Biuret. We each chose peerless of the reagents and ran three different trials for each reagent. In each trial we had five tribulation tubes: wiz with 5 mL of unknown 1, one with 5 mL of unknown 2, one with 5 mL of unknown 3, one with 5 mL of pee to show the negative reaction, and one with 5 mL of each reagents cooperative organic molecule (Lugols-starch, Ninhydrin-Glycine, Benedicts-Glucose, Biuret-Protein) to show the po amazeive reaction. Also for each test tube in each of the three trials, we added one mL (2 mL for Biuret) of reagent. For Ninhydrin and Benedicts reagent, all of the tubes in each trial must sit in a water bath: Ninhydrin for 5-10 minutes at 80 degrees celcius and Benedicts for 4-7 minutes at 65 degrees celcius.




After mixing all the solutions and allowing Ninhydrin and Benedicts to sit in the water baths for the circumstantial amount of time, cover each tube of all reagents and their trials with a strip of parafilm, mix the solution well, and allow the solution to sit while the color change occurs. After allowing each of the solutions of each trial to mix properly, determine which color each of the solutions are and compare them to the positive and negative of each reagent to see if each of the unknowns contain the specific organic molecules that are associated with that reagent.
